Dear Friends and Supporters,
As we step into Spring in the United States we are reflecting on changes and looking forward to the splendor of the season. Part of that for Trampled Rose is seeing our students succeed and move towards each of their next steps towards reaching their dreams. Students are determined to be eligible for Trampled Rose support through a process of application and interview to assess their need. They are high school students from impoverished families. The majority of students are orphans. We are currently supporting about 400 students together. Each student receives direct support deposited monthly into their own bank account. This provides empowerment so that they can attain safe housing, food, a school uniform, school supplies, menstrual care supplies, and health care. We’d like to introduce three of these Trampled Rose students, Woinishet, Chaltu, and Ture whose life you have helped change forever.
Woinishet is a ninth grader in Sheno, Ethiopia. She has an older sister who was also sponsored with your support to Trampled Rose student and is now attending university. Before receiving our help. she lived in a small, rented room with her mother. Her father passed away many years ago, leaving her mother to try to provide for the needs of her family as a day laborer. There was hardly money for food and rent, which means that attending high school would not have been possible for Woinishet. She is a sweet girl with big dreams of becoming a psychiatrist. She says that she loves helping others and that people often come to her for advice. Her mother is so grateful for the opportunity for her daughters to have a better future. This not only changes their future but also the direction of their generations.
Chaltu was on the waiting list to receive Trampled Rose help for two years. She is one of the middle siblings of a family with her four brothers and three sisters. The rural area where her family lives is about a two hour walk each way to the school. With the support she receives, she has rented a room close to school that makes attendance possible. She is now in the eleventh grade and is working hard towards her dream of becoming a teacher. Her school director told us that she is a generous girl who has been using part of her money to help other students in need.
Ture came from a family of poor sustenance farmers. They barely produced enough food to survive and then the situation became dire for their family of seven when Ture’s father became bed ridden. She spent her days doing any odd jobs she could get hired for with no time to study or attend classes. That all changed for her when she started to receive help from Trampled Rose. She was able to attend school and focus on her studies, she graduated last year and has been accepted to university. We are so proud of Ture’s dedication and hard work.
These students would not have been able to pursue a dream of a better future without the help they have received, and we are so grateful for your continued support that have made these futures possible. Thank you for believing in these students and their education and entrusting us to help them achieve their goals.
With gratitude from the Trampled Rose Team and all the students who now have hope for their future.
